Andrew J. Sears, farmer, sec., 10, Chippawa Tp., was born in Portage Co., Ohio, Oct. 7, 1841, and is the son of Samuel P. and Lodicie (Leach) Sears, both of whom were born in Connecticutt. Mr. Sears was nearly 20 years of age when the civil war broke out, and enlisted in the 104th Ohio Vol., Inf., and was in the service of the United States three years. He was in many of the severest engagements of the war among them were Knoxville, Franklin, Buzzard’s Roost, Cumberland Gap, Atlanta, Whitestone, Pumpkin-Vine Creek, Nashville, Fort Anderson, and Wilmington. He received his discharge June 1, 1865. In the fall of 1867 he came to Mecosta County, located a homestead of 80 acres and entered at once upon the duties of a farmer. He was married in 1870, to Effie M. Pullis, a native of Oakland Co., Mich. Elva M. and Stella M. are the names of their two children. In political sentiment Mr. Sears adheres to the National Party. |
